Celebrating Dr. David Armstrong’s Recognition as a Distinguished Professor

We are proud to celebrate Dr. David Armstrong, PhD, DPM, on his prestigious appointment as a Distinguished Professor at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. A world-renowned leader in diabetic limb salvage, wound healing, and hospital-free healthcare solutions, Dr. Armstrong has dedicated his career to preventing amputations and improving patient outcomes through groundbreaking research and clinical innovation.

As the founder and co-director of the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA), Dr. Armstrong has spearheaded efforts to integrate surgical, technological, and preventative approaches to reduce diabetes-related amputations worldwide. He also serves as the Director of USC’s NSF-funded Center to Stream Healthcare in Place (C2SHiP), pioneering the use of wearable technology and remote monitoring to enhance patient care.

With over 710 peer-reviewed publications, 120 books and book chapters, and numerous international accolades—including being the first podiatric surgeon elected to the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow—Dr. Armstrong’s contributions to medicine are unparalleled. His leadership extends beyond research, as the founding president of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS) and co-chair of the International Diabetic Foot Conference (DF-Con), the world’s largest annual symposium on diabetic foot care.
